Adult Bible Study, Sunday 11am

An adult Bible study opportunity has now begun, Sundays, 11:00. This is the beginning of a series of short-term, small group studies on foundations of our faith, beginning with Getting Acquainted with Jesus led by Allen Mitchell, a certified lay speaker and former local pastor in the United Methodist Church. A Night in Bethlehem

Saturday November 19, 2011 at 4pm

By order of his Royal Majesty, the Emporer, it is decreed that all the world is to be counted and taxed. Therefore, let each person and family come for "A Night in Bethlehem." Donkeys must be tied on the south side of the building and enter through the proper gate to be counted. Bring a blanket for your family to rest on from their long journey, you may find that the inn is full. This event will be held outdoors weather permitting so dress appropriately. These found disobeying this law to appear, will be sentenced to a holiday season without the true spirit of Christmas. So let it be written. So let it be done. -Caesar Augustus. Nichols-Bethel United Methodist Church request the honor of your presence at the re-enactment of the wedding at the time of Mary and Joseph. Continue enjoying the evening by experiencing the village of Bethlehem as it might have been during the time Jesus was born. Come visit the shops, observe the villagers and enjoy the campfire with cider. This is a rain or shine event. Nursery will be available. *It will take about 75-90 minutes to finish.

Dedication Sunday

9:30 AM Services begin in thanks.
- We gather in the sanctuary to give God thanks for the welcome journey God has set before us, for God’s vision of our Welcome Center and the provision of leaders, workers and donors who have made this great work possible.
10:25 AM Services continue at the WELCOME CENTER DOOR.
- We process from worship to the Center, sharing in the DEDICATION OF THE BUILDING. (Outdoors, weather permitting.) Joyful surprises are in store. We enter with glad shouts!
10:35 AM Services continue in Praise led by our “Search Party” band.

Fall Festival 2011

Come join us on Sunday, October 16th from noon until 2pm for annual Nichols-Bethel Fall Festival. Activities will include:

Bobbing for apples
Make a scarecrow
Paint a pumpkin
Pumpkin bowling
Tug-of-war
Fall pie/cake contest (bring recipes to share)
Assorted games for all ages

Lunch will be pot-luck style. Bring your favorite fall/comfort food dish.

Nichols-Bethel will provide the cider, iced tea, and paper products.

Bible Study Classes

Disciple Bible Study - begins Tuesday, Sept. 6, at 6:30 p.m. in Room 102.

This is a continuation of last season’s study. We resume with Lesson 24 and con-tinue for 10 weeks to completion ( 34 lessons).

Cover To Cover – begins Wednesday, Sept. 14, at 10:30 a.m. in Room 102.

A book discussion group featuring selected books for at-home reading and sharing time, as a group, at church. We will read books on topics relevant to our Christian faith and daily living.

We are continuing discussion of Facing Your Giants, by Max Lucado.

Friends In Faith – begins Friday, September 30, at 6:00 p.m. in Rev. Linda’s home. We are starting a new 6-lesson study, Serving From The Heart – finding your gifts and talents for service.

Fifth Annual Grill and Chill Worship Series

Picnic 6:30pm – 7:15pm

Outdoor Worship 7:15pm – 7:45pm

Just get together on a summer evening with church friends and families for a little outdoor supper…’Could be fresh off the grill…and a brief, informal time to share the Lord’s praises!

We’ll provide the grill, you can help bring the burgers and ‘dogs. We’ll cook or you can “grill your own.” Please bring a veggie or salad or fruit to share. (Make it easy!).

We’ll provide a cool drink. You bring a blanket, or chairs, as you desire.

We’ll bring the music, a story for faith, and time for words of prayer.

WE’LL HAVE A WONDERFUL TIME!!!

(It may be a movable feast as our grounds change and construction concludes.)

Come join us on Sunday, June 19 and be a “Fool” for Christ! The Love Out Loud (LOL) Clown Troupe will be leading worship for the first time! The Youth Fellowship has formed this clown troupe to bring the message of God and to reflect the heart of Christ. Come hear the Word as never before! A love offering will be taken to help with the transportation costs of Camp Hope.

Our Prayer Vigil/Prayer Journey begins following worship and continues until 7:30 PM Friday.

Welcome Center Wishlist

The Welcome Center is rapidly nearing completion, and we will be able to tour the new classrooms, cafe, and worship area. It's a really big space and eventually we will get tired and want to sit down. We need chairs! And tables! And lots of other things that you put inside buildings. Help us furnish and decorate the new Welcome Center by visiting http://www.nicholsbethel.org/wishlist, where you can browse the items that the Interior Design Committee has selected and donate the money to purchase a few chairs, or a table, of part of the stage, or part of the sound system…. well, you get the idea. Go check it out. You can donate by check, credit card, or PayPal.

Homeless Shelter Volunteers

Nichols-Bethel will be hosting the shelter for homeless men and women from 28 February – 06 March 2011. We will need volunteers to act as shelter hosts and to help with driving our guests between the Church and the Winter Relief day center in Glen Burnie. The hosts have two shifts with two volunteers per shift; the first from 5:00 PM to 11:30 PM and the second from 11:30 PM to 7:00 AM the following morning. Drivers transport our guests from Glen Burnie to the Church at approximately 5:00 each evening and from the Church to Glen Burnie each morning at 6:30. We will also need assistance with preparing and serving meals during that week. We will soon have sign-up sheets for these duties in the Narthex or you can call Colby Knoll at 410 305-1323 if you would like to volunteer to act as a host or Jim Griffie at 410 695-0542 if you are interested in driving. If you are interested in helping with preparing and/or serving meals, call Dolores Bell at 410 551-5784. We will also need help with other jobs, such as shelter set up and clean up and cleaning bed linens. If you are interested in helping and would like to know more about what you can do, please call Jim Roser at 410 721-8822 or Rick Binfield at 410 551-5917. We hope you will find it in your hearts to assist with this ministry – it requires a lot of help from a lot of people to make it work.

A Night in Bethlehem

Saturday, November 20th from 4-7pm

Come Join us for a Journey into the past, as you are taken back in time to experience the miracle of Jesus’ Birth
Arrive thru the gates of Bethlehem and register for the Census
Every family will be given a small homemade nativity scene
Have a family picture taken in costume
Visit 10 shop keepers-Learn how to use a loom, turn wheat into flour, how important spices were, how baking was done, how rope was made, make a small wooden doll, have a period snack, listen to period music
This event is free, of course you can donate to the tax collector
Come dressed for the out of doors
