We’ve completed another season of choir and how we’ve grown! Combining Thursday afternoon choir and Sunday morning choir, we had a grand total of 31 children registered. We averaged between 12 and 24, when we sang for worship. We were gifted with an additional Orff xylophone, enabling more children to play at the same time — and they absolutely love it! We are currently hoping to add some additional quality rhythm instruments, as well.

Our usual choir rehearsal includes: gathering time, with a hands-on activity, learning anthems for wor-ship, using rhythm instruments, reading notation, movement activities and spiritual enrichment, as we discuss the meaning of the anthems we sing and how they relate to the Christian life. Children’s bells ( handchimes) follow the choir rehearsal, applying the above-mentioned activities.

We will begin rehearsals on Thursday, September 8 at 5:00 p.m. – 5:45 p.m. Children’s bells follow, from 5:45 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. All children, ages Pre-K through 2nd Grade may attend Thursday choir.Sunday morning choir rehearsal begins September 11, during the 9:30 Sunday School hour. This choir is open to ages 3rd Grade – 5th Grade.Both choirs combine to sing one Sunday a month for worship, as well as the 6:00 p.m. Christmas Eve Family Service.Please consider this opportunity to enrich your child’s musical experience and deepen your child’s faith dur-ing these formative years.

Children’s Choir ( Early ages, Pre-K through Grade 2) this group meets Thursdays at 5:00 – 5:30 p.m. in Room 104. First rehearsal begins September 8. We sing monthly for worship, at 11:00 a.m., as well as the 6:00 p.m. Christmas Eve Family Service. Children’s Bells (handchimes) follow choir rehearsal from 5:45 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Children’s Choir ( Junior ages, Grade 3 through Grade 5) this group meets Sundays, during the 9:30 a.m. Sunday School hour, in Room 104. First re-hearsal is September 11. See choir articles and sign-ups in this newsletter for details.

Children's Choir and Chimes – 2010

We at Nichols-Bethel UMC would like to partner with you, in nurturing your child’s faith. Some of the ways we can do that is through getting them involved in the life of the church, both on Sunday morning and beyond. Here are some possibilities, as I see them:

Come to Sunday School and experience the love of Jesus through Bible story, song and related activities.
Sing in a children’s choir, either Sunday morning (9:30 a.m.) or Thursday afternoon (5:00 p.m.)
Play choir chimes, as a forerunner to playing handbells. Choir chimes meet Thursdays at 5:45 p.m.-6:00 p.m. and Sundays at 10:15 a.m.-10:30 a.m.
Experience worship through participation in sharing song and story.

There are many teachable moments in any or all of these activities. A faith foundation is being built through these experiential activities, as well as developing a sense of Christian community, caring and living by Christian example.

Choirs begin Thursday, September 9 at 5:00 p.m. and Sunday, September 12 at 9:30 a.m.
Choir theme for 2010-11 is: Jesus Loves the Little Children, sharing stories of Jesus’ ministry.
Sunday School is year round at 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.

Children's Choir rehearsals will resume on Wednesday September 5 at 6:45 pm.

The Children's Choir is for boys and girls in grades Pre-K through 5th. This fall, the childrens choir will be divided into two age groups:

Primary Choristers ( Pre-K through Grade 2) at 5:00 – 5:45 p.m. on Thursdays, beginning Sept. 10. Children's Bells from 5:45 – 6:00 p.m. Both in Room 208, as before.

Junior Choristers ( 3rd Grade through 5th Grade) Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m. This is an elective Choir/Sunday School Class, which will feature the Sunday School lesson, plus a choir experience. This group will also meet in Room 208. Sessions begin Sept. 13. See further details, plus registration form in the July/August newsletter.
