When does death occur? In the past, that seemed to be a point fixed in nature, but with the continuing advances in medicine and the growing capacity of medical teams to restart vital organs, the boundary between life and death is less clear. And that has great implications for surgeons who are seeking organs from patients who cannot recover for transplantation into other patients for whom the organ represents a new lease on life.
